Chicago Press Release Chicago Christmas Tree

CHICAGO—November 17, 2025, The City of Chicago will host its annual tree lighting celebration on Friday, November 17, at 6 p.m. in Millennium Park, marking the 110th anniversary of the city’s official holiday tree. The tree will remain on display through the New Year, illuminating Millennium Park throughout the holiday season.

This year’s tree is a 45-foot Blue Spruce, donated by the De La Cruz family and transported from Colorado. The tradition has long served as a symbol of the holiday season in Chicago, drawing residents and visitors alike to the city’s downtown.

The 2025 tree lighting is sponsored by Powering Chicago and the Millennium Park Foundation, whose support helps bring the annual celebration to life.

I interviewed one of my peers, and they said, "The tree lighting ceremony is a very impactful day for my partner and me as it marks the holidays, but it also marks our anniversary. This tradition is rooted in history and draws people from all around the greater Chicago area to celebrate this time of year and the love we share for this city.”
